Crypto Index Weekly: Leadership Narrowed as the Broad Market Paused
WeeklyIndicesMarket
CCi30 gained 1.35% and led the set. CI10 and CI100, calculated from snapshots, fell about 3.1% and 3.2% as leadership narrowed toward Bitcoin.
Weekly view. Crypto benchmarks consolidated after the previous week’s rally. CCi30 was the only index in this set to gain, up 1.35%. CI10 and CI100, calculated from comparable snapshots, fell about 3% and finished last. The Nasdaq CME Crypto Index slipped and the two CoinMarketCap baskets finished close to flat. Bitcoin dominance rose and the Altcoin Season Index fell, showing that participation narrowed even as overall sentiment stayed in Greed.

Leader. CCi30 gained 1.35%, the only benchmark in this set to post a weekly advance. Its broader 30-asset construction captured gains outside the most concentrated large-cap baskets.
Laggards. CI10 fell about 3.1% and CI100 about 3.2%. Neither was near the top of the compared set. CI10 is equal-weighted, so the altcoin decline counted for more. Capitalization-weighted indices got more of their result from Bitcoin. That is a difference in how the basket is built, not a judgment on the quality of the index.
Nasdaq CME. The Nasdaq CME Crypto Index fell 0.60% on its delayed official series. The decline was modest, but it contrasted with the prior week’s double-digit rebound.
Broad market. CMC 100 and CMC 20 were almost unchanged, at −0.28% and −0.31%. Both returns, like the CI10 and CI100 weeks, are indirect calculations from the 25 September and 2 October snapshots.

CryptoIndex.ai benchmarks
The CI10 and CI100 cards show the current daily window. The 7D field on those pages still matches that 24-hour change, so it was not used as the weekly return. The week below is calculated from comparable snapshot levels and marked as indirectly calculated.
- CI10 Blue Chip: about −3.1%, from 1,037.18 to 1,004.89. Latest daily window: +0.49%.
- CI100: about −3.2%, from 1,045.49 to 1,012.21. Latest daily window: +1.22%.
- CI75: no public series with two checkable weekly points, so the weekly change stays N/A.
CI100’s latest-session support came from Bitcoin, Ether and Aave, while Quant, NEAR and Zcash reduced the result. Across the full week, equal weight is why CI10 felt the altcoin decline more than a capitalization-weighted benchmark.

Market regime
| Indicator | 25 Sep | 2 Oct | Weekly change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Altcoin Season Index | 58 | 52 | −6 points |
| Fear and Greed Index | 71 | 72 · Greed | +1 point |
| Bitcoin dominance | 58.5% | 59.0% | +0.5 pp |
The regime became more Bitcoin-led. Dominance rose to 59.0%, while the Altcoin Season Index fell to 52 and remained well below the 75 threshold associated with a confirmed altcoin season. Fear and Greed held at 72, so sentiment stayed optimistic even as market breadth weakened.

What moved the market
ETF demand remained supportive. US spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted about $2.4 billion in the week ending 25 September, the strongest weekly total of 2026. That flow helped Bitcoin hold near the mid-$80,000s even as immediate spot demand moderated.
Rates capped broader risk appetite. Treasury yields remained elevated and volatile ahead of the US employment report. This limited the follow-through from the prior week’s crypto rally and favored Bitcoin over a more speculative market-wide rotation.
Breadth cooled. The fall in the Altcoin Season Index and the rise in Bitcoin dominance line up with the near-flat CMC baskets, the weaker CI10 and CI100 weeks, and the relative resilience of CCi30. This was not a uniform altcoin advance.

Rebalancing and composition
No CoinDesk 20 reconstitution announcement was identified during the week; the latest listed CoinDesk 20 family reconstitution remains the July 2026 review. Nasdaq NCI follows a quarterly schedule, with reconstitutions on the first business day of March, June, September and December. Bitwise methodologies generally reconstitute monthly on the last business day, but a reliable public weekly Bitwise 10 index level was not available for this report.
CI100 refreshes its selection and factor weights dynamically with each data pull. CI10 remains equally weighted across the ten largest eligible non-stablecoin assets. These are methodology-driven updates rather than a conventional monthly locked rebalance.

Data exclusions
CoinDesk 20 and Bitwise 10 were excluded from the performance table because a current, primary-source weekly level pair could not be verified at the cutoff. Their methodologies and announcement pages were reviewed, but no proxy return was inserted. Using an ETF market price or a stale aggregator print would mix fund-specific effects with index performance.
Key takeaways
- The prior week’s broad rally did not extend. Most major benchmarks were flat to slightly lower.
- CCi30 led with a 1.35% weekly gain. CI10 and CI100 were last among indices with a weekly figure, at about −3.1% and −3.2%.
- Market leadership narrowed toward Bitcoin: dominance rose to 59.0% and the Altcoin Season Index fell six points to 52.
- Sentiment remained elevated at 72 Greed, creating a gap between optimistic positioning and weaker breadth.
- CI10 and CI100 weeks are indirect. The on-site 7D field still mirrors the daily window, so these returns come from snapshots. CI75 remains N/A.
